BWT Alpine F1 Team unveils all-French driver lineup for 2023 season and sets sights on Formula 1 World Championship glory

BWT Alpine F1 Team is set to embark on its third season in Formula 1, after finishing in fourth place in the 2022 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.

This marks a clear, upward trajectory for the team since entering the sport in 2021. The team has unveiled its new driver line-up for the 2023 season, with Esteban Ocon being joined by Pierre Gasly to form an all-French pairing. For the 2023 season, the team will race in the new Las Vegas Grand Prix, among other races. The team is led by Alpine Cars CEO Laurent Rossi and Formula 1 Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer, and supported by the dedication of Renault Group CEO Luca De Meo. The team will race in the A523 Formula 1 car, powered by the Renault E-Tech RE23 power unit. The team is committed to competing for Formula 1 World Championship titles within 100 races.

Alpine’s history dates back to 1955, and the brand is now at the forefront of motor racing, competing alongside the elite in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, the World Endurance Championship, and other motorsport disciplines. The brand has a history of releasing new and innovative road cars throughout the 70s and 80s, including the A310 V6 and the GTA. Alpine returned to motorsport in 2012 to develop the brand’s awareness. The team entered Formula 1 in 2021 as the rebranded Alpine F1 Team, and finished fifth in the FIA Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship in their debut season.

The team is committed to making progress towards the front of the grid and to competing for championship titles within 100 races. The team’s new driver line-up for the 2023 season features Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, forming a powerful and experienced duo. Laurent Rossi, Chief Executive Officer of Alpine, is leading the development of the car brand as well as overseeing its ambitions in Formula 1 and motorsports. The team’s Technical Director Matt Harman and Chief Technical Officer Pat Fry have led the Enstone programme for chassis development, while Executive Director Bruno Famin has worked with Enstone to integrate the power unit.

The team has unveiled the A523 Formula 1 car for the 2023 season, which has been designed to be more competitive than the previous season’s car. The team has worked hard to improve the overall reliability of the car. The car is the culmination of over 1,200 people coming together and working exceptionally hard. The A110 R, the most radical Alpine ever, has been designed to be sensational on the racetrack yet still certified for the open road. The ultimate expression of lightness and performance, the car was designed to push the boundaries of sports cars and was built with input from top-level experts.

Alpine’s road car programme is benefitting from its involvement in Formula 1. The brand’s exposure has increased astronomically since entering Formula 1 in 2021. The brand is exploring ways to work hand in hand and transition technology and ideas from the pinnacle of motorsport into everyday road cars. The brand’s commitment to motor sports is reflected in the design of the A110 R, and the brand has always remained competitive in Formula 1 and other racing categories.

The minimum target is to finish in fourth place again, but with a much firmer grip, which means more finishes, fewer retirements, and more points.
